Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Digital Registry
Effective Date: July 1, 2026
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (“ARCHDIOCESE,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Digital Registry platform to facilitate the submission, processing, transmission, and maintenance of sacramental and ecclesiastical records by parishes and Metropolises of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
Information We Collect
The Digital Registry collects information necessary to process sacramental and ecclesiastical records, including:
- Names of individuals involved in sacramental events;
- Contact information;
- Dates and places of birth;
- Religious and sacramental history;
- Family relationship information;
- Marriage-related information;
- Parish and clergy information; and
- Supporting ecclesiastical documents.
The Digital Registry does not collect Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, or copies of government-issued identification documents.
How We Use Information
Information submitted through the Digital Registry is used solely for legitimate ecclesiastical, sacramental, administrative, and recordkeeping purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and its constituent Metropolises and Parishes.
Disclosure of Information
Information may be shared with authorized clergy, parish administrators, Metropolis registrars, and authorized personnel of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America who require access to perform their duties.
Information will not be sold, rented, or disclosed for commercial purposes.
Disclosure of Historical and Sacramental Records
The Archdiocese, and its constituent Metropolises, Districts and Parishes maintain sacramental and ecclesiastical records for religious, historical, genealogical, administrative, and legal purposes.
The GOA may disclose information contained in such records to the individual who is the subject of the record, to authorized family members, descendants, legal representatives, governmental authorities, or other persons with a legitimate interest, including for purposes of establishing identity, ancestry, citizenship, eligibility for sacraments, genealogical research, or other ecclesiastical, legal, or historical purposes.
The GOA reserves the right to require reasonable proof of identity, relationship, authorization, or legitimate interest before releasing any record or information.
Data Security
The Digital Registry employs administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include role-based access controls, password requirements, multi-factor authentication, and secure hosting environments.
Data Retention
Detailed registry records are retained only as long as necessary to process and maintain ecclesiastical records. Certain information may be archived or removed from the user-facing platform following verification and transmission processes. The Archdiocese may retain records as required for ecclesiastical, legal, historical, or administrative purposes.
Third-Party Service Providers
The Digital Registry may utilize third-party hosting and software providers to operate the platform. Such providers are authorized to access information only as necessary to provide services to the Archdiocese and are expected to maintain appropriate security measures.
Children’s Information
The platform processes information concerning minors solely in connection with sacramental recordkeeping and under the authority of parents, guardians, clergy, or authorized church personnel.
Changes to this Policy
The Archdiocese reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Updated versions will be posted on the platform.
