Please note that approximately twenty (20) minutes are required to complete the official Ecclesiastical Chrismation Application.
All of the following documents must be submitted prior to the initiation of the application:
- The Catechumen’s Certificate of Live Birth or valid identification
- The Catechumen’s previous Baptismal Certificate (required)
- The Sponsor’s (Godparent’s) Baptismal Certificate (Orthodox)
- The Sponsor’s (Godparent’s) Letter of Good Standing
Please Note:
- The Sponsor must be an Orthodox Christian in good standing.
- Additional catechetical instruction may be required.
- All documents must be original or certified copies.
- No chrismation date may be scheduled until all requirements are fulfilled.
Godparent (s) (Nouno/Nouna) Requirements:
Please note that the individual who will become a godparent must be an Orthodox Christian in good standing with the Church.
Definition of Good Standing:
An Orthodox Christian in good standing is one who meets the following criteria:
- Has been Baptized and Chrismated in accordance with the sacred canons of the Orthodox Church
- If previously married and divorced, has received an official Ecclesiastical Divorce granted by the Church
- Is a steward in good standing of an Orthodox parish
- If married, was married in the Orthodox Church
Important Note:
If the Sponsor (Nouno/Nouna) was married in the Greek Orthodox Church and subsequently divorced without obtaining an ecclesiastical (Church) divorce, he or she is not eligible to serve in this role.
